How often should I get my eyes tested?
Adults between 20-64 years of age should have an eye exam every two years, unless otherwise instructed by their Optometrist. Children and seniors should visit their eye doctor every year.
I have good vision, why do I need an eye exam?
An eye exam is about more than 20/20 vision. Your Optometrist will measure your prescription for eyeglasses and also review your eyes’ overall health. Many vision-threatening conditions, such as glaucoma, present with minimal initial symptoms and can only be discovered with a complete eye exam from an eye care professional.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring a valid health card, any glasses or contact lenses that you are currently using and a list of medications you are presently taking.
How much is an eye exam at your office? What does that include?
Our fees start at $174 for a comprehensive eye exam. The doctor will assess your ocular health, binocular vision and determine your visual needs. A digital photograph will be taken of the back of your eye to better monitor your retinal health. Other testing, such as assessing contact lenses, would incur additional fees.
Does OHIP cover eye exams?
Children 19 and under and seniors 65 and over are covered for an annual eye exam by OHIP. Certain eye diseases will also have coverage from OHIP. A digital photograph of the back of the eye is highly recommended for patients ages 6 and up; this allows us to better monitor retinal health. The charge for this test is $50, and it is not covered by OHIP however, it may be covered by your private medical insurance.
How much does it cost to get my contact lenses checked?
Contact lens assessments begin at $46. This fee may increase depending on your contact lens needs. The fee includes any subsequent follow-up appointments and any sample contact lenses you may use on a trial basis.
Why do I need to have my eyes dilated at my appointment?
In order for your Optometrist to complete a thorough examination of your eye health, they must be able to view the back of your eye. This is difficult to do if your pupils are small. The doctor may use eye drops to dilate your pupils, so they can assess your retinas more effectively.
How much do glasses cost at your office?
The cost of eyeglasses is dependent upon your prescription, the frames you choose, and the activities or hobbies for which you would like to use them. There are many different types of lenses and frames which can influence the overall cost. We strive to keep our pricing competitive and offer exemplary service. Come into our office for a quote!
Does OHIP cover eyeglasses?
OHIP does not cover the cost of eyeglasses. If you have private medical insurance, you may have coverage through your vision plan.
Do I need an appointment to buy eyeglasses?
No, you do not need an appointment. You can walk in at any time to meet one of our friendly and knowledgeable opticians.
Can I bring a prescription to your office from another Optometrist to buy glasses?
Of course! Bring us a copy of a valid prescription, and we will be more than happy to help you pick out some new glasses.
